Southwest Johnson County CERT is part of the greater Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program. This program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area. Training takes place in basic disaster response skills such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. Following is a link to the National CERT homepage where you can find a CERT program near you, find out how to start a CERT program if there isn’t one near you, and a variety of other CERT related resources.
Southwest Johnson County CERT is a team that is growing on a yearly basis we are currently doing one training class a year and they are usually held in the fall. We have a training protocol in place for the year, please see the training page. Please let us know if you would like to know more about CERT. Our team looks forward to growth from the community.
