Applying for membership in CERT:
So, you want to be a member of CERT? That’s Great!!! As you know, CERT is made up of Citizen Volunteers who, in a time of need, can be called upon to help assist our local fire department, Fire District #1 of Johnson County Kansas. CERT members also help assist in local community events as well when our assistance is requested. There is a position in CERT for Anyone. Whether it is in logistics, medical, or search and rescue, we will never ask you to do more than you are comfortable doing.
So, now what you may be asking. Well, it’s simple. You need to apply to be a member of CERT. When we have openings, we will schedule a CERT Basic Training course. In order to go through this training course and become a member of the CERT team, you need to apply. Then an interview process will be held. Those selected will then go through our 8-week course. The class will meet one day a week on Thursday nights from 19:00 to 21:00 (7 pm to 9 pm). At the end of the CERT Basic Training course, we will have a Mock Disaster Drill.
As part of the CERT Basic Training course, you will be issued a basic preparedness kit. This is a basic kit to get you started. Everyone will customize their kits the way they see fit. This is ok. We are just trying to get you started.
